Sandro Veronesi

Sandro Veronesi (born 1959 in Florence, Italy) is a distinguished Italian novelist, essayist, journalist, and playwright. He earned a degree in architecture from the University of Florence, but soon shifted his focus to writing, publishing his first work—a collection of poetry—at age 25. Veronesi has since written numerous novels, essays, a play, screenplays, and television scripts.

His major novels include The Power of the Past, Caos Calmo (Quiet Chaos), and The Hummingbird. He won the prestigious Premio Strega twice—first in 2006 for Caos Calmo and again in 2020 for The Hummingbird—making him only the second author to achieve this feat. Caos Calmo was adapted into a film starring Nanni Moretti, and The Hummingbird was also translated into English in 2021.

In addition to his literary work, Veronesi co-founded the publisher Fandango Libri, where he serves as editorial director for American literature, and co-founded the online radio station Radiogas. He regularly contributes to newspapers and literary magazines, bringing sharp insight and elegance to his essays and cultural commentary.

Currently based in Rome, Veronesi continues to explore themes of family, memory, psychological depth, and the power of language—affirming his place at the forefront of contemporary Italian literature.
