Born in Berlin, Mascha Schilinski’s passion for filmmaking was cultivated from a young age, as she accompanied her mother, a filmmaker herself, on set and production locations. After completing her studies, young Mascha gained valuable experience in the film industry, working as a casting director for the Gesichter agency, which focused on discovering young acting talents. Schilinski’s filmography showcases her versatility as a writer and director. She has collaborated on several short films and web series, including Nachtschwärmer (2008) and Wir müssen los (2012). Her talent for crafting compelling narratives and immersive visual experiences is further evident in her work on the television series “Cologne P.D.,” where she served as both writer and director. Schilinski’s most acclaimed work to date is her upcoming feature film, Sound of Falling, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2025. The film, which spans multiple generations and time periods, has been praised for its innovative use of subjective camera techniques and its exploration of collective memory and intergenerational trauma. It was awarded with the Joint Jury Prize in the 2025 edition.
